ABBOTSFORD, B.C. -- Texas Stars centre Dustin Jeffrey flew under the Abbotsford Heats radar, but hes sure to attract more attention in the future. The 26-year-old spoiled Abbotsfords annual morning school day game Tuesday as he scored his first two goals of the American Hockey League season to lift the Texas Stars over the Abbotsford Heat 3-1. Entering Tuesdays game, Jeffrey had just three assists in 33 games with the Pittsburgh Penguins, Dallas Stars and Texas Stars. "Its been a difficult year," he said. "To get these two goals is big. I thought Ive been playing pretty well, helping our team in different ways with the penalty kill and whatever they need, so to contribute this way at a 10:30 a.m. game is big." "Dustins a great hockey player," added teammate Brendan Ranford. "Hes been chugging a little bit of late trying to get that puck into the net a Hes been going hard to the net and a lot of bounces werent going in for him, but tonight they were." Jeffreys second goal proved to be the game winner. Ranford sped down the left side of the ice and dished the puck off to Jeffrey who buried it just under Joey MacDonalds blocker from the top of the left circle at 8:55 of the middle period. "(Jamie Oleksiak) made a great breakout play," said Jeffrey. "We ended up having a four on three rush. I just took a step back and let the guys charge the net, (Ranford) hit me with the pass and it went right through the screen." Brett Richie had a goal, while Ranford picked up two assists. Oleksiak and Scott Glennie each added an assist in the victory. "We knew it was going to battle," said Jeffrey. "We knew that for us to be successful we had to play a strong game and take our chances when they came." Jack Campbell stopped 23 shots in the win for Texas (34-16-8). "Campbell hasnt played in forever because of the injury hes been having," Ranford said. "Hes an exceptional goalie a Hes always square to the shooter and he played very well for us and thats what we need." Sven Baertschi had the lone goal for the Heat (33-19-6), who are now winless in their last five games. "I thought it was a great game from both sides," Baertschi said. "It was up and down, and great speed, too. It was a lot of fun to play today. We just couldnt put the puck in." MacDonald stopped 22 of 25 shots in the loss. Texas went 0-for-1 in on the power play while Abbotsford was 0-for-3. "In general, they were opportunistic," said Abbotsford head coach Troy Ward. "We had a couple of those chances, and we didnt score a They were just a little bit more opportunistic this morning." At 14:41 of the first period, MacDonald denied Texas forward Colton Sceviour when he stacked his pads to make a stop. Baertschi opened the scoring less than a minute later with a snap shot from the bottom of the right circle, beating Campbell high glove side. Jeffrey tied the game at 19:21 with his first goal of the season. Glennie found the puck down low and worked it behind the net to Ranford who found Jeffrey in front for the easy tap-in. "Glennie made a pretty good play to draw two of the defenders to him and that left Ranford open," explained Jeffrey. "He made a good play coming around the net and I just tried to create space in front of the net. He made a great play to find me and it basically went right off my stick." Brett Richie gave Texas a 3-1 lead at 10:29 of the third period on an unassisted breakaway, splitting two Heat defenders and going backhand high over a sprawling MacDonald. Terry Bradshaw Jersey . -- All-Pro tight end Jimmy Graham and the New Orleans Saints met Tuesday for arbitration on his contract. Jerome Bettis Jersey . There are some early surprises in the race for the Hart Trophy, but two of the contenders are the leagues biggest stars over the past decade. There are many more players in contention for the awards than just the three that Ive named, and a good or bad week can easily alter the landscape, but through the first 20 or so games of the NHL season, this is how the awards races look to me. http://www.authenticsteelerspro.com/Jack-ham-steelers-jersey/ . -- Ben Bishop had a milestone game against one of the NHLs greatest goalies. Venus Williams advanced to the ASB Classic final in Auckland on a walkover when fellow American Jamie Hampton withdrew from their semifinal Friday with a right hip injury. Jack Butler Jersey . Jeff Carter had two goals and an assist as the Kings stretched their streak to seven wins in a row with a 4-2 victory over the Edmonton Oilers on Sunday.TSN football analyst Chris Schultz is back with his Week 6 selections in the CFL. The Big Man finished 2-2 in Week 5, and sits at 9-11 on the season in Schultz vs. The World. Now Schultz is ready for more action, including a close prediction between the Lions and Stampeders. Winnipeg Blue Bombers at Hamilton Tiger-Cats We know Drew Willy is for real as so far this season he has had only one game - Edmonton - where you did wonder. The other four have been pretty good. Now with Dan LeFevour he is coming off a great game but to be "for real" he has to have a great game the majority of the time. I will be very interested to see if Kent Austin limits any of Lefevours spontaneous plays. One of the most difficult things to defend in football is when the quarterback makes that split-second decision to take off and run. You cant defend it because to do so would take away from an aggressive attitude on defence. There is always an injury risk with a running quarterback but I hope no limitations will be given on Lefevours reactive desires. Both teams will come into the game confident as both are coming off impressive wins and if Hamilton was healthier especially up front I would "take em". I dont think they will be so I have to take the Bombers in a close one. Winnipeg moves to 5-1. Toronto Argonauts at Montreal Alouettes This is the desperation game for Week 6. For the visiting Argonauts they are desperate to put the 37-9 loss in Regina behind them quickly and forever. Every year there will be one or two games that a team has to decide whether it is even worth watching video or more beneficial to just "move on". This may be the game to do that with Toronto. No Durie, Owens, Barnes and others is a primary reason but a primary concern must be how they could start so poorly in a game where being in Regina you always have to match intensity with the home team.dddddddddddd With nine teams this year every team gets two bye weeks. Montreal had theirs and the timing could not be better. They will go into this one healthy again and Troy Smith will go in with as much quality preparation time as possible. He will have had reviewed all four of his previous starts and have a crystal clear idea of his strengths and weaknesses. Then it is simple, improve the weakness and maintain the strength. Montreal over Toronto. BC Lions at Calgary Stampeders Both teams did not play well last week. It was evident in BC with only nine points scored against Winnipeg. With Calgary at the end of the first quarter they had zero first downs, three yards rushing and 17 yards passing. If not for special teams mistakes by Edmonton, Calgary would not have won that game 26-22. Earlier in the season BC lost two in a row and then re-grouped and won two straight in an impressive way. It may happen again as even though Calgary won it just did not feel right and I am sure it did not feel right with the players as well. Bo Levi Mitchell goes for win No. 8 in a row. I think he gets it in a close one. Stampeders. Saskatchewan Roughriders at Ottawa Redblacks Last time the Riders were on the road they were destroyed 46-15 in Toronto - that loss will be forefront in their memories. At running back I think George Cortez has found his guy. Will Ford looked confident, powerful and hungry. Not that Anthony Allen and Hugh Charles didnt but Will Ford took an opportunity and ran with it. The Riders will not have the pass rush success they had against Toronto but should be able to benefit from no Justin Phillips and Kerrie Johnson. This game features a Grey Cup championship team playing an expansion team with the Grey Cup team learning fron their last road loss in Toronto. Riders over Redblacks.
